South Buffalo Railway Company Receives ISO 9002 CertificationBethlehem
Steel Corporation LACKAWANNA, New York, May 30, 2001 - South Buffalo Railway Company, a subsidiary railroad of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, has received ISO 9002 certification in recognition of the quality transportation services the railroad provides its customers in the Lackawanna, New York area. South Buffalo is a switching and terminal railroad that provides rail service to Bethlehem Steel's Galvanized Products and Lackawanna Coke Divisions, Ford Motor Company, Republic Technologies and others. South Buffalo interchanges with the Norfolk Southern, CSX, Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, and Buffalo & Pittsburgh railroads. The railroad is one of nine shortline railroads owned by Bethlehem Steel serving the corporation's business units and other customers located on the railroads' lines. South Buffalo is one of only a few railroads in the nation to obtain ISO certification issued in accordance with the International Organization of Standards and documented by AFAQ-ASCERT International, an independent registrar. ISO certification demonstrates South Buffalo's ability to satisfy customer railroad service requirements at agreed upon performance standards. Those services include switching and train preparation; car, track and equipment repair; and equipment supply. South Buffalo joins other Bethlehem Steel transportation related subsidiaries that have earned ISO 9002 certification. Those subsidiaries include the Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad, which services Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point, Maryland Division, the Philadelphia, Bethlehem and New England Railroad serving Bethlehem Steel's complex in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Carrier Express, a trucking company, supporting customers of Bethlehem Steel's Burns Harbor, Indiana and Sparrows Point Divisions. |
